Summer in London

Summer slowdown?  What summer slowdown?  The most recent London Metal Exchange/Euromoney London course was well attended with representatives of 11 LME member companies and 9 industrial companies making this the most balanced course in terms of the broker versus trade attendees.

The course is proving popular with a broad range of job functions from account officers, product controllers, compliance and legal staff, credit analysts as well as shipping managers, procurement and manufacturing specialists.  We even had two attendees from agricultural markets which led to interesting comparisons between metals physical and derivatives trading and sugar and cocoa markets.  Minor metals also had their moment in the (pale London) sun with experts from Metal Bulletin and the LME cobalt committee on hand.

“Would definitely recommend to colleagues who were new to metals ” Metal Bulletin

“The course gives a good understanding about the business side of the base metals market.” HSBC

“The trainer gave very clear explanations and made sure that everyone had understood all the contents. Everything was clear and well organised” Manufacturas Irular

The next courses are Geneva (9-11 September 2015) and Vancouver (23-25 September 2015). Note the next London course (14-16 October 2015) is during LME week and is filling quickly already.  Click here to secure your place.

Success in the Big Apple

Last week the LME training courses were held in New York in conjunction with American Metal Markets’ Steel Success Strategies XXX conference.  Delegates enjoyed the central location close to Times Square with all the buzz and razzmatazz of the Big Apple at its best.

“Very informative and comprehensive course on the features of the LME and futures and options hedging. Very clear explanations, good pacing and all questions clearly answered”
ThyssenKrupp

A sophisticated group of delegates meant that the formal materials were covered relatively quickly, and there was time to delve deeper and discuss examples directly relevant to delegates’ day-to-day roles.  The options day turned into a round-table tailored tutorial, with a hands-on option pricing session.

Record Numbers for London

London is THE place for learning about the London Metal Exchange.  Our May courses filled up in record time and an extra date was added to accommodate demand.

The formal course agenda was enhanced by the on-the-job first-hand anecdotes of many of the attendees.  We heard about the high standards of LME warehouses as compared to non-LME warehouses in developing countries; we had physical players and CTAs comparing their differing approaches to price risk; and we heard how the LME was some 25 years ago from a former floor clerk.  All in all, it was an insightful few days.

“The course develops nicely and is easy to follow – very well structured” JOGMEC

Incredibly well delivered by a very knowledgeable individual.  Answered questions thoroughly and patiently” BTG Pactual Commodities

Bookings are coming in already for New York (10-12 June 2015) and London (4-6 August 2015).  Click here to secure your place.

Additional date for London: 14th May

The next LME courses in London (May 11-13) are filling fast.  We have added a second date for the “Introduction to the LME” course on May 14.  Register early to make sure you don’t miss out on your preferred course date and location.

That’s not fog; it’s a sandstorm

EJJ International saw more sand than metal during it’s first LME course in Dubai!  An extraordinary sand-storm grounded aircraft and brought traffic to a standstill.

In the comparative calm of the training room, a varied group of delegates from nearby (Dubai, Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia) and further afield (Greece and India) made for lively debates and Q&A sessions.  Patricia Rodrigues from Euromoney Learning Solutions was on-hand to present the course certificates at the end of the course, and the feedback told us that things were clearer inside the training room than outside.

“I loved the way the material was explained.  I picked up all the information I need.” ALBA
