Another sell-out

Last month’s London Bullion Market Association (“LBMA”) introductory course to the loco London market was another sell-out.  Banks, central banks, refiners, recyclers and physical traders from Bangkok to Chicago gave tremendous variety to questions posed and insights shared.

“A very informative introduction to Loco London.”

“Good mixture of participants made the training interesting and varied.”

“Excellent explanations for all levels of knowledge.”

“A great instructor who is willing to answer all questions.”

“The English of the trainer is absolutely easy to understand thanks to her pronunciation.”

The next session will be another virtual course split over 19 & 20 February 2024, timed for London mornings which should make it easier for those based east of the UK.  Will it be a hat-trick of sold-out sessions?   Find the links to register here.

Every cloud has a silver lining

When Covid struck in October, the LME / Euromoney Learning course on warehousing and physical trading had to be cancelled.  A virtual session was arranged to cater for overseas attendees who were unlikely to travel back to London for a single day.  As this was the first time the warehousing session was offered virtually, it was great seeing a few extra participants join in, particularly those who had asked for a virtual version of this course.

I am so happy it was offered online 😊

It was helpful hearing first-hand how banks, producers and traders use LME warrants and storage

Now I finally get warrants.  Thanks.

The 2025 calendar is now available.  Please do get in touch if you do not see a combination of topic, date and delivery format that suits you.

Standing room only

Last month’s London Bullion Market Association (“LBMA”) responsible sourcing course hit capacity well in advance of the course date.  An excellent mix of refiners, assurance providers, mining advisors, banks & brokers, metal fabricators and investors meant questions and discussions were many and varied.  Practical experiences from across the globe were shared leaving little time for the scheduled breaks.

“The clarity and effectiveness of the presentation were excellent and captured my attention from start to finish.”

“Congratulations on the ability to make an online course so stimulating and participatory.”

I particularly appreciated the part of the practical cases that allowed a comparison with the other participants and an exchange of ideas on real situations”

To accommodate demand, a further responsible sourcing course has been scheduled for 20 November. For those who would like to learn more about the loco London market, the ever popular introductory course is available virtually over two consecutive London afternoons on 29 & 30 October.  Links for further information and registration can be found on Upcoming Courses.

Beam me in, Scotty

Last week’s London Metal Exchange / Euromoney Learning courses had to deal with the glitch of a Covid-positive trainer on the final day of the hedging course.  etcVenues rose to the challenge providing an isolation room for the trainer, and excellent IT staff who salvaged the day by seamlessly converting the in-person session to a hybrid course.

Questions, discussions and quizzes were as lively as the in-person days, helped along by the co-opted in-room assistant collecting answer sheets and calling out results.

The final course of the year is a virtual one, with sessions held during London mornings on 9-13 December.  2025 dates will be available for booking shortly.  Registration links for all courses can be found on the Upcoming Courses page.

Meeting at the Meat Market

Last week’s London Metal Exchange / Euromoney Learning courses took place to the historic Smithfield market.  There has been a market on the site for over 800 years, and the current cut meat market dates from about when the LME was founded. Peak activity is between 02:00-06:00 and only stragglers remained as delegates arrived for their training day.

“Loved it. The day was so well planned and content was brilliant!”

“Best course I’ve been on”

“Use of real examples from participants keeps people engaged”

“It has been invaluable for giving me a better understanding”

The next in-person courses take place during LME Week (1-4 October) and places usually sell out quickly. If you miss out, you can join the final virtual course held during London mornings on 9-13 December.

Registration links for all courses can be found on the Upcoming Courses page.

Sustainable Learning

Last week’s London Metal Exchange / Euromoney Learning virtual courses saved at least 17 tonnes of carbon emissions compared to a classroom course. Attendees from Singapore to Houston enhanced their knowledge of the LME without needing to catch a flight.

If sustainability is a key metric for your company, or important to you personally, consider joining the next round of virtual LME courses scheduled for 9-13 December. Each course is a series of daily 3-3½ hour sessions which means your learning can be completed without unduly compromising your day-to-day work routine.

“It was a wonderful course and very informative“

“this course ironed out the creases and strengthened my knowledge and explained the LME in a very clear and concise way”

“the pace is well planned and organized”

More than you bargain for

Last week’s London Bullion Market Association (“LBMA”) courses on the loco London market and the LBMA’s Responsible Sourcing programme were well received.  The sessions are designed to give a thorough grounding in the topics at hand, and offer opportunities for participants to share their individual expertise. We gained bonus insights into recovering precious metals from waste water streams, and digital evolutions in investor products.

“The course was great, information was good and clear.”

“I thought the content was pitched at just the right level …. this really helped me piece all the elements together.”

“It was also great to see a diverse set of professions represented in the course — be it from mining companies, financial services, or banks.”

“it has been an excellent experience”

The next courses will all be virtual, with Responsible Sourcing on 23 September and Introduction to loco London running over two consecutive London afternoons, 29 & 30 October.  Follow the links to book your place.  To express interest in alternative dates or an in-person course, please get in touch via training@lbma.org.uk.

IRL vs IRL

Last week saw all the London Metal Exchange courses running IRL, but in which IRL?

The virtual 3-hour Introduction to LME Cash-Settled Futures was delivered from Dublin, and the In Real Life courses were in London.  Attendees from as far apart as Ecuador and Singapore descended on Ireland virtually and London in reality.

“Great course. Would recommend to all in these industries.”

“Explained in such simple words that it makes it simple and easy to understand”

“A welcoming environment with continuous opportunity to participate”

Summer sees the courses running virtually (10-14 June), in Hong Kong during LME Asia Week (25-26 June), and in London (15-17 July).

Registration links for all LME courses can be found on the Upcoming Courses page.

Feed your brain

This month’s London Metal Exchange / Euromoney Learning courses weren’t just a learning opportunity, as quite a few attendees really enjoyed the food too.  Well done etcVenues, the regular venue for in-person London courses, for keeping us well fed over the few days.

Excellent course and value for money. Oh and lunch was good!”

“It’s really made me understand the actual business side of my firm’s work.”

“The trainer was extremely credible, knowledgeable and fantastic at explaining the concepts in an engaging way.”

The next classroom courses are scheduled for 22-25 April in London, and the next virtual course for 10-14 June. And new for 2024, the courses will be offered as part of LME Asia Week in Hong Kong, 25-26 June.

Registration links for all LME courses can be found on the Upcoming Courses page.

Getting back into gear

Last month’s London Bullion Market Association (“LBMA”) course on the loco London market got all brains engaged while exploring the derivatives commonly used in the gold and silver markets.

Plenty of practical examples and workshops banished any lingering post-Christmas slowness and set the attendees up nicely for the coming year.

The next introductory session is scheduled for 4th June.  Follow the links to book your place.  The follow-on module runs on demand.  To express interest in joining a session, please get in touch via training@lbma.org.uk.
